Backed up by Russia's firepower, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has ousted his armed opponents from nearly all of Ghouta, their last stronghold on the edge of the capital. The regime has used a combination of a fierce military onslaught and two negotiated withdrawals to empty out 95 percent of the enclave, but rebels are still entrenched in its largest town of Douma.

Damasco (Siria), 8 apr. (LaPresse/AFP) – Il governo siriano ha raggiunto un accordo con i ribelli per l’uscita da Douma, città in mano all’opposizione nel nord del Paese. L’agenzia di stampa ufficiale Sana, citando una fonte governativa, ha detto che l’accordo vedrebbe “la partenza di tutti i cosiddetti terroristi di Jaish al-Islam per Jarablus entro 48 ore”. La notizia arriva il giorno dopo un presunto attacco chimico che ha ucciso dozzine di persone a Douma, che la Siria e la Russia, sua alleata, hanno fortemente negato.
